Description

Renaissance gown inspired by a 1466/1490 fresco, "La Nascita di San Giovanni Battista" [link], by Domenico Ghirlandaio, which can be found in the Tornabuoni Chapel, in Florence.

The lady in the fresco is probably the florentian poetess Lucrezia Tornabuoni, mother of Lorenzo de Medici. The design of the fabric was taken from "King Gaspar Procession", a fresco by Benozzo Gozzoli since the original design from the Ghirlandaio's fresco was way too expensive.

This dress was used for the Lady of the Procession in a Renaissance Fair, Costanza Varano. There was also a man dress, a footman dress and the horse garments which were part of this set.

The fabric of the gown is silk brocade recreated with a loom from the Renaissance period. The cream-white undergown is silk with a linen shirt underneath. The only thing that is different from the original dress is the embroidered belt, which is needed to sustain the weight of the gown while on horseback.
The total cost for this dress was around 6500 euro.
